E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2018

The E. Guigal Côte-Rôtie La Mouline 2018 is one of the legendary single-vineyard wines of the Northern Rhône and one of Maison Guigal’s most emblematic creations.

Produced in extremely limited quantities from a historic vineyard in the heart of the Côte Blonde, La Mouline is renowned for combining remarkable concentration with exceptional finesse, perfume and a uniquely silky texture.

The wine is composed of 89% Syrah and 11% Viognier, sourced from vines averaging approximately 100 years of age.

Tasting Notes

La Mouline displays an elegant ruby-red colour with vermilion reflections.

The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of ripe red berries, blackberry and violets, accompanied by delicate floral and spicy nuances.

On the palate, the wine is exceptionally supple and refined. The extraordinary concentration of the old vines provides richness and depth, while the Viognier contributes perfume, elegance and a beautiful sense of lift.

The result is a Côte-Rôtie of remarkable harmony: powerful yet graceful, concentrated yet silky, intensely aromatic and exceptionally long.

Exceptional Terroir & Winemaking

The La Mouline vineyard is formed like a natural Roman amphitheatre on the steep slopes of Côte-Rôtie. Its soils are dominated by gneiss and light-coloured siliceous material mixed with limestone loess.

Following a long maceration of approximately five weeks, the wine is matured for around 40 months in new oak barrels.

This patient ageing contributes additional complexity while allowing the distinctive character of this extraordinary vineyard to remain at the centre of the wine.
